My sister describes friends as shoes. "Some are stilettos" and while they are fun you can only have them on for a little bit and then have to put them back in the closet. Others are a comfy pair of sneakers or slippers and you can have all the time. Then there are those that are your favorite pair. The ones you will never give away and are made of the best quality. Every shoe has a purpose.
It made me think of some of my friends and the surprises they have given me.
I was mentioning to my niece and sister last night that I wish I had more friends like me. What I meant by that is someone who will drive to see me and who is reliable (I can do without the anal part haha). If I hear a friend say they want to do something or dream about some thing, I want to be a part of it. I'll normally look up the event or activity and get the ball going. I rarely cancel. I drive to many of my friends house because they think I live in another country. I guess I just want people to also go out of their way too.
The other day my friend Debbie called. I was coming back from Laguna Hills from a training and she had asked me to go have dinner with her. Honestly, I didn't feel like driving back to the O.C. and then she offered to drive up to my area. When I told her I was shocked that she would go out of her way to drive to see me and I explained that I generally have to drive to see my friends she said it was B.S. and friendship goes both ways. It made me feel special and understood.
The conversation with my sister and niece ended with laughter as we started thinking about the nerdy talks a twin me and I would have.
I’m just your regular feline... love to play, nap, eat, sleep....then sleep some more!

She threw me a curve ball and blamed it on life
It's amazing when you talk to people and what they say about you. I'm just being me and it's surprising how much it means to people or how nice it feels when it's put into words. And anyone who knows me, know that I love my family. I try to be there for them as much as possible and in the smallest or largest way.
With my sister Karla that comes with calls, letters and the occasional visit. She has moved around quite a bit because secretly you know that she wants to be in California with her family, but is torn because her husband hates it here and is happier in Colorado. My sister is emotional and a pleaser. I see her struggle with trying to do what she wants to do and with what she feels obligated to do. Ever since her son passed away gosh I want to say 5-6 years ago, it has gotten worst. Of course, everyone went to visit her when Baby Henry passed away, but only then. Besides her in-laws and myself, no one visits other than that time. Karla always tells us to visit her not just when something traumatic happens. I have made it a point to try to visit at least once a year. Not only to visit, but to keep our bond alive. I know it must be hard to live so far away from family and be constraints to only certain visit when time, vacation accrual and money permits.
Yesterday mark the last day of my winter qtr at school. I was supposed to hop on a plane and visit my sister. However, last weekend her high school friend over dosed and passed away and mid week she got a call that the funeral would be this coming Saturday. That would be during the time of my trip to see her. At first my sister wasn't going to come to California because she would just be putting it on credit card, plus I was already set to be in Colorado. She told me that we could remember Lisa by living life and fed me some bull shit because the next day she said she was crying all night and she just feels it in her heart to be here. Really?
Now, I am not one to judge how someone morns, why some deaths hit you harder than others, etc. But hello, I am ALIVE... I am your SISTER... I am visiting you just like you beg the rest of our family! If I die tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, heck probably a year from now (*knock on wood that I don't!*), I am sure she would have regretted her decision and seen the value of spending quality time with someone when they are alive verses choosing someone who passed.
It's not like I make tons of money either that I can eat the cost of my ticket and just buy another anytime. To change my ticket it was going to cost $150, plus the cost of the new ticket. WHAT?And I think what hurts the most is this. In December Jay and I got married. We had mentioned to family that we wanted to get married by the end of the year, but it wasn't set in stone until a week or two before the date in which it occurred. However, my sister didn't jump on a plane and come visit. Heck, I know she spends a lot going to all her other friends weddings and yes sometimes puts it on a credit card. Not that I am expecting it, but it is the truth. Her Cali ticket must've cost around $500, she said she was paying me back for my ticket, so that's another $200. Once you add spending money it will be close to a grand to go to this funeral, yet she couldn't come to my wedding which had similar circumstances: had special value, was somewhat last minute and would've cost around the same or less. Although I wouldn't want her to have done all that for our wedding, I am just comparing the two.
In addition, during this passed week she was venting to me that her in-laws planned a trip to visit her in June and arrive the same day as my graduation. She didn't know what to do and was upset. REALLY??? AGAIN?!?! These are your in-laws... I am sure my brother-in-law can entertain HIS parents for one day. Missing the day the arrive isn't THAT big of a deal. I felt like shit. I get it... I really get it... My life events are a DAMN obligation for her. Then don't bother... really... I want people around me that WANT to be there. Plain and simple. If it's more important to be there when the in-laws arrive, then fine. Don't vent to be about it, just be straight forward a "hey Vanessa, I can't be at your graduation" would be fine. I don't need to know the details. The ceremony will happen either way, I will walk across that stage and I will still be happy!
Unfortunately, my sister is also someone who wants to lick her wounds. She blamed this whole situation on God, got upset at her husband and at me. Then, she started to lick my wounds. I told her once we got off the phone to not bring it up. I didn't want to hear "I'm sorry!" a billion times. It only brings it up and makes me upset. HOWEVER, she didn't get the message and STILL text me super late at night, called me a few times saying exactly that. She said she was boarding the plane and it should've been me. That life throws us curve balls and we have to make the best of it. Sure that's easy to say when you're the one throwing them.

The Fiasco with our Deposit
I had always rented from an apartment complex/management company, where there was a rental agreement until my previous place. It was a house behind a house and my sister had rented there before, so I knew the landlord. It was a tiny 750 sq foot place, but cheap and did the job for the time being.
When move out day came, Jay turned in the keys to the landlord’s wife because the landlord was not available. Jay stopped by a few days later to talk to the landlord about our deposit and he was asleep. Then Jay called him at a later date and the landlord thought we had only given him a $300 deposit when in fact we gave him $500, said we were not getting all of it back and because Jay was having a hard time understanding the landlord’s broken English they hung up with the landlord saying he was going to call me. Almost a week went by and no word from the landlord so I had to call him. I told him I had a copy of the first check written to him for rent and our $500 deposit included and he was fine with the $500.00 amount. However, he wanted me to see the work he had done to the place and talk about the deposit. I agreed and drove the 26 miles (one way) to go have this chit chat with the man. Now if you know me, I am (for the most part) by the book type of gal when it comes to these types of things. I did my research and made sure I was well aware of my rights. Luckily Google helped me find the CA Department of Consumer Affairs: California Tenant Book. It’s a guide to rights and responsibility for both the tenant and landlord. From my reading I learned the landlord was already in violation. *sigh*
Let me back up a little bit, we had left the place clean (thanks to my Mom and niece for cleaning it), we had replaced the closet wood rail with a metal heavy duty one, left the liners on the new cabinets to protect them, and added a door mirror to the bedroom. I have been there since November 2007, always paid super early on rent, never said anything when they (illegally) connected my cable line to their house line or ask for some payment for using the cable services I paid for, was nice and courtesy with the whole family, gave my 30 day written notice and contact information. So… you could only imagine the look on my face when 1.) The landlord wanted me to pay for ALL the painting supplies and labor and refused to give me receipts and invoices for the work. What is wrong with this man? 2.) Down right refused to accept the CA Handbook that I had printed for him in Spanish so we could review and he could be informed for not only this situation but all other ones. He said his friend already told him the laws and he didn’t care about them.
He offered me half my deposit with no back up and naturally I refused to take it. I was beyond pissed and thought I was being more then fair with him for asking back-up for the amount he was not paying back. He was already passed the 21 days allot to give me this information and deposit anyways, so I was technically entitled to all my deposit. He tried to intimidate me, wouldn’t shake my hand and was down right unprofessional. Even after I told him that 1/3 of my deposit was $166 and maybe we could work with that number to deduct for paint, he said I owed him more. If you know me, you know what my next step was - See ya because this discussion is over!!!! I told him we would have to resolve this in court. The next day I sent me a certified letter recapping our Friday call and Monday's visit.
The next day I received two calls from his wife. She said that she wanted to settle this woman to women and I wasn’t a “nice” person for saying I was going to take them to court. Then she said we left the floor dirty and she needed to spend an extra 5 hours to clean the floor with a special chemical. Is she crazy? It’s a 750 sq ft place, how on God’s green earth can you spend 5 whole flippin' hours cleaning a floor? What is she using to clean this floor, a tooth brush? She asked me to make a deal with her and just give her a number on what I would like to pay her and her husband for their work. I told her I could not put a value on it, I needed receipts for the paint and invoice from them for their work done or to-be done. We had agreed that I would come clean the floors and get my full deposit back. She thought it was fair and had to run it by hubby. I got a call back and no deal. He just wanted to write a check. Then she mentioned the toilet was moving a little. I told her that was not our responsibility to fix. Are they seriously thinking that we need to do all the maintenance work too? I ended the call on the same note as I had with her husband - we will just resolve this in court.
So how did it all end? Yesterday, I got a call from the wife saying they were going to give us our full refund and wanted to avoid the court system and having negative feeling about everything.
Now let’s hope the check doesn’t bounce. Haha!

It's not a real party, unless there is a fight
The weekend got even more interesting as the next day we celebrated my oldest sis' b-day by going to a play. For some reason we thought it was going to be a comedy, but quickly learned that it wasn't once it started. It was a drama filled play filled with murder, ex-cons, corrupted government, drugs, alcohol and tons of cussing with an ending in the main character and a psychopath falling in love a burning themselves to death for fear of some bugs. It was so far from a comedy!!! But hey, at least we all got to go out together as a family, right?
It was the birthday of my sister who lives in CO on Sunday, so I called her to wish her a Happy B-day and had sent her some gifts throughout the week. It was the big 3-0 for her and I wanted her to have a special one. I tried sending her flowers for that weekend, but she lives in such a small town that neighboring cities do not delivery to her "remote" location and the ONLY florist in town was on vacay for two weeks. Even 1-800flower, proflowers.com and ftd.com wouldn't deliver. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. My sister got a good laugh at my amazement that there was only one flowershop in her city. You just don't hear of that in Souther Cali.
The next weekend was Jay's big graduation day!!!
And so did my Mom!
And this was our celebration cookie cake from mrs. Fields...YUMMY!!!
Congrat honey! All those hours of studying, cramming, driving to SD is all over! You did it!! :)

I have had better days!
Do you ever have those moments that you wake up feeling heavy, yet as if you have a hole through you? It's like I am hurt, mad, frustrated, confused and on the verge on tears. Last night I felt like I was back in my childhood home being made fun of. Even though last night I was not being made fun, but the feeling was the same. Stress headaches suck! I don't see where people get a raise off of getting under other people's skin. What is this great thrill they get out of it?
Well, I got an apology this morning. I guess that should count for something.

Burrrr...
Note: I wrote this a week ago and realized I never posted, so here it is... just a lil late.
Well this weekend was the big move. Goodbye apartment #13 and hello house behind a house or as the refer to it in CA, back house. I am not a fan of the term, but that's the name of it.
Moving was not a smooth sailing process. I got rid of A LOT of stuff. I never realized how much stuff I had duplicates of or never used.
I had a little tiff with my new landlord and can wait until 9 months down the road when Jay and I move in together.
The tiff with my landlord went like this. A lot of miscommunication because I was speaking Spanglish and he interrupted me asking if he had seen my dolly and me accusing him or his family of stealing it. I explained to him that it was probably in the mess of boxes, etc in the house and I just didn't see it. He said it MUST have been one of my friends that stole it because why would someone just come to the back and steal a dolly. I explained over and over that it was probably in the house and I was JUST asking and that the ones that helped me DID NOT steal it. Hello, it was my sister, sensei T and Jay. Why on God's green earth would they steal from me and out of all things a dolly?!?!
He got all bent out of shape over everything after that!
From me not calling 10 days prior, when we had arranged 5 days. Me talking to his wife and her giving me the ok to move in completely on Saturday and her not telling him and him thinking I was moving in on Thursday the 1st and just moving in big things on the weekend. Him being upset because when I saw him (which was Sunday) he hadn't received a rent and deposit check, which had he talked to his wife, he would have known that she told me that they were not going to be home Saturday. She gave me instructions to go ahead a move in, the doors would be unlocked and the keys on the stove, and to give her husband the rent check on Sunday when they rent. ONLY ON FREAKIN DAY LATER! Then I pointed out to him that we scraped the wall moving my fridge in and he lost it yelling :you have to pay for that" over and over. I told him "I know!" I am just showing you so you know and if you want to fix it now you can or later.
Anywho, things are better now.
That Monday following the cable guy was supposed to come and they never showed up. I had taken the day off for them and they never bothered to even call me that they ran over and couldn't make it out. I got a $20 credit on my next bill because of it. My Mom was kind enough to be at my house the following day for their reschedule. She said that's what mother are for. Aw! Good thing she was there, because when the gas company came to turn on the gas they found a leak and she could communicate it to the landlord and I didn't have to talk to him. The landlord sung another tune after that and was so nice to deal with! He was probably feeling bad that he did catch the leak before I moved in. He came home and fixed leak and apologized that I would be out of hot water another day. Yup, that's right, I have been taking cold showers for 4 day and now going on 5 and eating out or making stuff that does not require a stove/oven.
The next day the gas company came out and turned on the gas and all was groovy!

Don’t shoot the messenger!
Yesterday was SUPER hectic at work. I had to come in early to set up for an 8am meeting and the day continued to run at full force. I had to miss lunch and to top it off I was the messenger for pissed off boss.
Late morning yesterday I get a call from my boss to tell me that he is outside and someone is parked in his reserved parking spot. We recently closed one of our buildings a half mile away and transferred all those employees over to the three building at my current location. Since then parking has become a challenge to say the least.
I called security twice and no one answered the phone both times, then I called the head of security directly and the first time I got his voicemail. Finally, the second time I got through. By this time by boss had checked with me twice on the progress and was not happy that I could not get a hold of someone. He had me call the head of security’s boss, his boss and his secretary to complain. He wanted this car towed ASAP and wanted the name of the person who owned the vehicle and the name of the person who he reported to. By boss was not a happy camper and I had to tell people delicately so that fact with my boss in ear-shot distance away.
Security was very nice and understanding. They even went around the building and asked (200+ people) if any one own the white, later model, Toyota 4Runner parked behind the building. Since the owner was not found, security had the car towed. I felt bad as I watched the car being towed and hoped the owner would run down and claim it before the y took off, but no luck.
Image being the person whose car was towed? Coming out of work and not seeing your car. I would have thought it was stolen and freaked out. Then I would have freaked out when I had to go claim it at the storage facility and probably have to pay $300+ to get it back.
This morning I received a report from security stating all the facts that occurred yesterday and that they were not aware of the owner yet, but believe it was so and so. They email me their badge photo. I guess for easy IDing. That was a little extreme, I thought.
So to the owner of the white, later model Toyota 4Runner I am so sorry for having to tow your car! I hope you got it back and it didn’t cost too much!

Evidence
This would be part two of this post:
Even tho in the post below I just wrote that Roommie and I had a "drama free" weekend, I still want to have this up here as a reminder to me about how things can be.
Luckily, lil sis' hubby works in construction and can patch most of the holes. The hall way door will need to be completely replaced. *sigh*

Exiting the Roller Coaster
Today was supposed to mark my final day of my detox, but that didn’t goes as planned. Last Saturday I started to feel a little under the weather and Tuesday it hit me full force. I called in sick at work and slept the day away and that’s the day I got off the detox to enjoy some soup and over-the-counter drugs.
Hind sight, it might have not been the best time to start. At first I thought it would be a great time to start because it would help me look great for roommie’s b-day, jump start my work out routine and help me be more Zen. If I only knew that all hell would break loose, I so would have waited!
Roommie and I have been on this love hate roller coaster. I see that we are both really hurt right now and are hurting each other.
He is house-sitting for a client of his for a week and will be back at the end of the week to pick up all his stuff. YEAH! I am so relieved. It’s been over 3 months since we broke up and what an emotional roller coaster this has been.
Today another mini roller coaster came my way. Sensei-T said he could not longer be my martial art instructor if I ever thought he liked me or thought he hit on me.
To give you a little back ground. Sensei-T was Roommie high school track coach, martial art instructor and best friend for the last 12 years. When I enlisted in the military I need to learn how to do push ups and I hired a trainer at 24Hour Fitness and was assigned to Sensei-T and he introduced Roommie and I. Well, after a couple months Roommie and Sensei-T had a falling out and I was in the middle of it. Sensei-T was also having other drama in his life; his live in girlfriend of 8 years and him were breaking up. Sensei –T had called me one day and said at the end of his message that he loved me. Since he is not sensitive type of person, I took as he was hitting on me. Plus, I had never heard him tell his two step daughters or his girl friend of 8 years that he loved them. Like I said, that was just not in his character. Well, last night at work Roommie and Sensei-T get into a verbal fight (btw, they work together) and roommie brings up the past. Sensei-T thought I was still thinking that he liked me and said he couldn’t be my sensei anymore. I felt so helpless. I totally respect his decision, but was upset that this was all going down this way. Before the chatting was done he said he just need some time to pass and then we can resume training.
If only I wasn’t sick, I would so go dancing tonight to blow off some steam. Heck, I might just take some over the outer stuff and just go. And if I feel bad at the club, I’ll just drink a Hot Toddie.

I deserve better!!!
My heart is bleeding and I start to think of all the “what if's” that could have been done to prevent this wound from bleeding. I guess this is just one of those hard lessons in life that I need to get.
After 3 ½ years you think you really know someone, but it’s a slap in the face when you realize you don’t and even more shocking to see their immature actions… terrible name calling, punching holes in walls (yes, walls!) & doors, and breaking furniture (that used to belong to my Dad) is so uncalled for! You have lost me forever because of last night…
I started to remember what was on my list of qualities that I wanted in a significant other and remembered all I had on the list were 3 or 4 things and I see where that got me. So I started a NEW list to put out to the universe for qualities of my next love:

The claws come out
I sent out a notification to all my email contacts letting them know that I have a new email account. And one of my sensei’s (I have 3), I’ll call him sensei – R, crossed the line a little bit and after being called out on it never apologize.
This is my conversation with him:
Sensei - R: (my new screen name)? Just when i thought you couldn't be any more sexy.
Me: You are the second person who has told me that that name is sexy! I don't get it..but thank you! :)
Sensei - R: If any other person tried to use that name, it wouldnt be as sexy. but with you, I picture you in a (screen name) leotard.... oh wait.... maybe i should keep that to myself.... lol
Me: Yeah, I would agree that those things need to stay in your head! Especially since you are my sensei AND have a girl friend.
I haven’t heard from him since. I really want to email him and tell that I at least expected an apology, because that would be the honorable thing to do and to remove me from the class website and email roster. Roomie and one of my co-workers say I should so do it. What are your thoughts?
And my other sensei (his father) emailed me asking when he will be seeing me in class again. I so feel like saying, “NEVER! Because I don’t train with men that lack integrity, honor and hit on their students and since your son is in your class, you won’t be seeing me anymore!” But I realize that is crossing the line, so I won’t do that. But man does it feel good to write it!
